Calavera core value #2: Discipline When i hear the word discipline, i picture my grandma wearing one slipper while clutching the other in her right hand. Although she never hit anyone with it, she’d give us that look. At that point, all the kids knew it was time to stop messing around. Although discipline from an external source is needed at times, I learned that self-discipline keeps us from taking shortcuts, quitting, not doing all the sets x reps as programmed, trying to out train a bad diet, and not giving our best effort on a rough day. Coaches can help, but self- discipline is a choice we make internally while we avoid doing what we want now to get what we want the most. Thanks, grandma. So proud of our all of our weightlifting teams that competed at @pullingforourlittleheroes this past weekend. This year we had 4 more Calavera teams than last year and I'm excited that the overall competition has grown as well. 3-Time Olympian Cheryl Haworth came out this year to help us raise money for @nvkidscancer at our annual event, @pullingforourlittleheroes This was such a treat to watch her step back out on the platform and just be herself. With her help, we were able to raise over $65K for NNCCF and bring a lot of excitement to the platforms as she got to compete alongside the Barclay family! Not only did she help us raise money for childhood cancer, she also spent some time on Sunday helping us improve our lifts! When a 3-Time Olympian (11 consecutive National Championships, World Record Holder), Hall of Famer comes out, you try to spend every minute you can picking her brain and learning from her! She is one of the best to ever compete in this sport and is so genuine and humble! So grateful she came out and became a part of our famOLY. Every year I struggle to find the right words to describe this feeling when the event is over. This fitness community continues to come together year after year after year to raise money for @nvkidscancer . So grateful to be part of this community of amazing people. It really does take a village of like-minded individuals to make this happen. As we continue to total all of the generous donations, @pullingforourlittleheroes is projected to have raised more than $65,000. With the William N. Pennington dollar for dollar match, the event will have raised over $130,000 this year for the Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation! This goes to show just how amazing this community really is- every volunteer, athlete, and supporter.
